About
The Archerfish is one of the most intelligent and fascinating fish in the hobby. Its ability to shoot precise jets of water to knock down prey above the surface is unique in the animal kingdom. Capable of compensating for light refraction when aiming, it demonstrates remarkable cognitive ability.
Behavior & Temperament
Intelligent and fascinating fish that shoots jets of water to knock insects off the surface. It inhabits the upper part of the aquarium and is semi‑aggressive toward smaller fish.
Feeding
Carnivore/Insectivore. In the wild, hunts insects by shooting water jets. In aquariums, accepts pellets, live insects (crickets, roaches), shrimp, small fish and frozen foods. Can be trained to accept flakes.
Breeding
Oviparous. Does not reproduce in home aquariums. In the wild, it spawns in coastal brackish waters.
Care Notes
Long tank with space above the surface. Tolerates and prefers slightly brackish water (1.005-1.010 SG). Secure lid. Offer live insects regularly to stimulate natural hunting behavior.
Compatibility
Compatible with fish of similar size or larger. Small fish will be preyed upon. Can be kept with other brackish-water fish. Territorial at the surface.
