About
The Bicolor blenny is one of the most charismatic fish for reef aquariums. With a dark front half (brown to purple) and an orange rear half, it’s easy to spot. Its large, expressive eyes and habit of perching on high spots in the tank, watching everything, make it a delight to watch.
Behavior & Temperament
A peaceful and entertaining fish that perches on rocks and corals, watching the aquarium with its expressive eyes. Territorial with other blennies. Eats algae and periphyton from live rock.
Feeding
Herbivore/Omnivore. Grazes algae and biofilm from live rock. Accepts spirulina, nori, algae-based flakes, mysis and brine shrimp as supplement.
Breeding
Oviparous. Male prepares a nest in a cavity and courts the female. He guards the eggs until they hatch. Breeding possible in an aquarium.
Care Notes
Abundant live rock for grazing and perching. Hiding spots (rock cavities) for sleeping and shelter. One blenny per tank in smaller aquariums. An excellent natural algae controller.
Compatibility
Peaceful with most reef fish. Territorial only toward other blennies and similarly shaped fish. Excellent addition to reef tanks as an algae grazer.
