About
The Celebes Rainbowfish is a rare and stunning species endemic to the island of Sulawesi. Its translucent body with iridescent reflections and long fins with filamentous extensions in males make it one of the most elegant fish available. A living jewel for alkaline water aquariums.
Behavior & Temperament
A peaceful and graceful fish that swims in the middle and upper levels of the aquarium. Males display long, filamentous fins when courting females.
Feeding
Omnivore. Accepts flakes, micro pellets, brine shrimp, daphnia and frozen foods. Appreciates live food to enhance coloration and stimulate breeding.
Breeding
Oviparous. Deposits eggs among fine‑leafed plants with adhesive filaments. Reproduction possible in alkaline, hard water. Eggs hatch in 10–14 days.
Care Notes
Alkaline and hard water (different from many tropicals). Moderate current. Planted aquarium with swimming space. Avoid fin‑biting fish, as the males' extensions are delicate.
Compatibility
Compatible with similarly sized peaceful fish. Excellent with other rainbowfish, coridoras, and calm tetras. Avoid fin‑nipping fish.
