About

One of the most fascinating fish in the hobby: a completely transparent body that lets you see the skeleton and internal organs. It swims in the water column in groups (atypical behavior for catfish). It needs current and a group to thrive.

Behavior & Temperament

A gregarious transparent catfish that swims in groups in the mid‑water column (unusual for catfish). Shy and sensitive, it loses its transparency when stressed or sick.

Feeding

Carnivore/Omnivore - brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, microworms. May accept fine flakes. Prefers live or frozen foods in the water column.

Breeding

Rarely bred in captivity. Seasonal changes (rainfall, temperature) are believed to be necessary to induce spawning.

Care Notes

Group of 6+ REQUIRED (they become stressed and die when kept alone). Moderate current needed. Dense plants for safety. Moderate lighting. Very sensitive to sudden parameter changes.

Compatibility

Peaceful and shy. Ideal with rasboras, calm tetras, corydoras, and otos. Avoid large or aggressive fish that might intimidate it.
