Behavior & Temperament
Territorial dwarf cichlid with colorful males and a lance‑shaped caudal fin. Relatively peaceful, but will defend its territory during breeding.
Feeding
Omnivore - brine shrimp, daphnia, mosquito larvae, microworms. Accepts good quality flakes and pellets.
Breeding
Spawns in caves. Female cares for the eggs and fry with dedication. Male defends the larger territory. Polygynous.
Care Notes
Needs very soft, acidic water to thrive. Sensitive to water quality. Tannins (almond leaf) are beneficial. Plenty of hiding places required.
Compatibility
Peaceful with small schooling fish. Ideal with tetras, corydoras, and otos. Avoid aggressive cichlids.
