About
Mbuna notorious for the extreme aggressiveness of males. Dramatic sexual dimorphism: golden-yellow females, males are black with metallic blue stripes.
Behavior & Temperament
Considered one of the most aggressive mbunas. Dominant males may chase and kill tank mates. Keep only with equally robust species and in spacious aquariums.
Feeding
Herbivore. Feed with spirulina, veggie flakes and aufwuchs. Avoid foods rich in animal protein.
Breeding
Maternal mouthbrooder. Female carries 20–40 eggs for 21–28 days. Extreme sexual dimorphism: females are yellow with black stripes, males are black with blue stripes.
Care Notes
Large tank with plenty of hiding spots. Keep only one male per tank. Overstocking can help disperse aggression. Monitor behavior daily.
