Amano Shrimp
Caridina multidentata
Water Parameters
About
The most efficient algae‑eating shrimp. Robust and active, ideal for planted tanks plagued by filamentous algae.
Behavior & Temperament
Peaceful and gregarious. The best algae eater among ornamental shrimp. Active during the day, it scours surfaces for algae and biofilm. Should be kept in groups of six or more.
Feeding
Omnivore - algae, biofilm, detritus, shrimp food, spirulina wafers
Breeding
Oviparous with a marine larval stage. Females carry hundreds of eggs, but the larvae require brackish water to survive. Breeding in captivity is extremely difficult.
Care Notes
Sensitive to copper and heavy metals. Requires a mature tank with biofilm. Slow drip acclimation is recommended. May try to escape the aquarium if water quality is poor.
Compatibility
Excellent for peaceful community tanks. Compatible with small fish and other invertebrates. Avoid predatory fish.
