Water Parameters
About
Fascinating loach with an extremely flattened body, adapted to live in strong currents. Hypnotic pattern of stripes and spots. It adheres to glass and rocks with a ventral suction disc. Requires a specialized setup with high oxygenation.
Behavior & Temperament
Flat-bodied loach that clings to surfaces in strong currents. Peaceful and gregarious, it can become territorial over feeding territory.
Feeding
Herbivore/Omnivore - algae, biofilm, spirulina wafers, cucumber, zucchini, occasional bloodworms. Needs surfaces with biofilm to graze.
Breeding
Successfully bred in captivity in high‑flow aquariums. Spawns in crevices between rocks. Relatively easy with proper conditions.
Care Notes
Strong current required (powerhead or high‑flow filter). Cold water (max 24°C) and highly oxygenated. Smooth rocks for biofilm. NOT compatible with warm tropical aquariums.
Compatibility
Very peaceful. Ideal with cool, fast-water fish: danios, white cloud minnows, other hillstream fish. Do NOT combine with tropical warm-water fish.
