About

The largest commonly available nerite, with a smooth dark shell resembling a military helmet. Extremely efficient at algae control.

Behavior & Temperament

Peaceful and voracious algae eater. One of the largest nerites available. It tirelessly scours hard surfaces, cleaning algae.

Feeding

Herbivore - algae (all surface types), biofilm, supplemental spirulina

Breeding

Oviparous but does NOT reproduce in freshwater. Lays infertile white eggs on surfaces. Larvae require brackish water.

Care Notes

Alkaline, hard water for shell health. Sensitive to copper. Recommended lid. May need assistance if it flips onto its back.

Compatibility

Excellent for any community tank. The best nerite for large aquariums because of its cleaning efficiency.
