The Royal Blue Tetra is a jewel of Brazilian fishkeeping, with males displaying intense blue-violet coloration. Endemic to the Aripuanã River in Mato Grosso, relatively rare but highly appreciated.
Behavior & Temperament
Peaceful and sociable. Males have intense blue coloration, females are more subdued. An elegant schooling fish.

Omnivore. Fine flakes, small pellets, brine shrimp nauplii and microworms. Small mouth.
Breeding
Oviparous. Requires very soft, acidic water for breeding. Eggs scattered among fine plants.

Soft, acidic water. Moderate lighting. Tannins from almond leaves are beneficial.
Compatibility
Great for nano tanks and peaceful community setups. Ideal with microrasboras and pygmy corydoras.
