Demasoni Cichlid
Pseudotropheus demasoni
Water Parameters
About
Small mbuna with very striking alternating blue and black vertical stripes. Despite its small size, one of the most aggressive Malawi cichlids.
Behavior & Temperament
Extremely aggressive for its size. One of the most territorial mbunas. MUST be kept in large groups (12+) to diffuse aggression; otherwise the dominant fish will kill the others.
Feeding
Strict herbivore. Feed exclusively with spirulina, veggie flakes and aufwuchs. Animal protein causes Bloat quickly in this species.
Breeding
Maternal mouthbrooder. Female carries 5-15 eggs for 21-25 days. Difficult to sex juveniles; both are identical in coloration.
Care Notes
A minimum group of 12 individuals is essential for survival. Provide plenty of rocks and hiding places. Diet is 100% plant‑based. Monitor aggression constantly.
Compatibility
Keep only with equally robust mbunas. Avoid species with similar stripe patterns. Large groups of Demasoni work better than small numbers.
