Semi‑aggressive, natural predator of fry. Males are territorial, especially during breeding. Keep with similarly sized species.
Feeding
Carnivore/Piscivore. Feed with high-quality flakes, pellets, brine shrimp, krill and mysis. In the wild, preys on fry of other cichlids.
Breeding
Maternal mouthbrooder. Female carries 30‑60 eggs for 21‑28 days. Males show intense electric‑blue coloration during reproduction.
Care Notes
Spacious tank with open swimming areas. Avoid very small species. Provide a varied, protein‑rich diet.
Compatibility
Compatible with haps and peacocks of similar size. Avoid keeping with small species that may be preyed upon. Do not keep with very aggressive mbunas.
