Water Parameters
About
One of the most popular peacocks with various color variants depending on locality. Males display spectacular metallic blue coloration.
Behavior & Temperament
Semi‑aggressive, much more peaceful than mbunas. Males are territorial only during breeding. Keep in harems of 1 male to 3–4 females.
Feeding
Omnivore with preference for meaty foods. Accepts flakes, pellets, brine shrimp, daphnia and mosquito larvae. In the wild, detects invertebrates in substrate using sensory pores.
Breeding
Maternal mouthbrooder. Female carries 20-50 eggs for 21-28 days. Males display vibrant colors to attract females.
Care Notes
Fine sand substrate for natural foraging behavior. Moderate lighting enhances colors. Avoid overly aggressive tankmates.
Compatibility
Compatible with other peacocks, peaceful haps, and non-aggressive Tanganyika cichlids. Avoid aggressive mbunas that steal food and stress peacocks.
