Considered one of the most beautiful haps of Lake Malawi. Adult males display a spectacular combination of red, blue, and orange.
Behavior & Temperament
Semi‑aggressive, moderately territorial. Males can be aggressive toward other males of the same species but are relatively tolerant of other fish. Keep in tanks.
Feeding
Omnivore with herbivorous tendency. In the wild, scrapes aufwuchs from rocks. Accepts spirulina, flakes, pellets and brine shrimp occasionally.
Breeding
Maternal mouthbrooder. Female carries 30-60 eggs for 21-28 days. Adult males develop spectacular multicolored coloration.
Care Notes
Spacious aquarium with rocks and open areas. Varied diet based on plant matter. Proper lighting brings out the vibrant colors.
Compatibility
Compatible with other haps and peacocks. Avoid very aggressive mbunas. Good for Malawi show tanks with colorful species.
