About

Classic Malawi Mbuna with orange‑red variants in females and blue in males. One of the most widespread species in the hobby.

Maternal mouthbrooder. Female carries 20-40 eggs for 21-28 days. Males have prominent egg spots on the anal fin.

Care Notes

Abundant rocky décor with many cavities. Controlled overpopulation reduces individual aggression. Strict herbivorous diet.

Compatibility

Compatible with other robust mbunas. Avoid shy or much smaller species. Good combination with Pseudotropheus and Melanochromis.
