Behavior & Temperament
Mbuna, moderately aggressive with strong sexual dimorphism. Males are blue and females are yellow. Keep in tanks at a ratio of 1 male to 3–4 females to reduce aggression.
Feeding
Predominantly herbivore. Feed with spirulina, veggie flakes and algae. Avoid excess animal protein that causes Malawi Bloat.
Breeding
Maternal mouthbrooder. Female broods 15-25 eggs for 21-28 days. Marked sexual dimorphism facilitates sexing.
Care Notes
Predominantly plant-based diet and mandatory. Excess protein causes bloat. Keep in groups with more females than males.
Compatibility
Compatible with mbunas of similar temperament. Avoid very aggressive species or those with similar coloration. Good companion for Labidochromis caeruleus.
