About
The Sawbwa Barb, also called Asian Rummy Nose for its red snout tip, is unique as the only member of its genus. Endemic to Inle Lake in Myanmar, males display a translucent bluish body with intense red snout and caudal lobes.
Behavior & Temperament
Peaceful and shy fish that prefers to swim in schools in the middle portion of the aquarium. Males display a bluish coloration with red snout and tail. Slight territoriality among males.
Feeding
Omnivore. Accepts micro flakes, micro pellets, baby brine shrimp, daphnia and cyclops. Prefer live or frozen foods of small size.
Breeding
Oviparous. Disperses eggs among fine‑leafed plants. Breeding possible in a tank with alkaline, slightly hard water. Parents do not tend the eggs.
Care Notes
Alkaline, slightly hard water—unlike many Asian fish. Gentle current. Planted aquarium with swimming space. Cooler temperature (not hot tropical).
Compatibility
Compatible with other small, peaceful Lake Inle fish such as the emerald dwarf danio (Danio erythromicron). Avoid large or aggressive fish. Excellent with shrimp.
