Pseudocheilinus hexataenia
Water Parameters
About
The Six-line wrasse is one of the most popular wrasses for reef aquariums. Its purple body with six orange horizontal lines is very striking. Despite its small size, it’s a voracious pest hunter, feeding on flatworms and small bristleworms. However, it can become a bully in smaller tanks.
Behavior & Temperament
Active, curious fish that explores crevices and holes in live rock. It can become very territorial as it matures, chasing newer and timid fish. An excellent pest hunter.
Feeding
Carnivore. Feeds on small invertebrates, worms, crustaceans and pests. Accepts mysis, brine shrimp, chopped shrimp, marine flakes and pellets. Active hunter of flatworms and bristleworms.
Breeding
Oviparous. Protogynous hermaphrodite. Reproduction rare in the aquarium. Male courts female with a color display.
Care Notes
Live rock with many crevices and holes to explore. Introduce last to reduce territorial behavior. In small aquariums, it can dominate and harass future additions. One specimen per aquarium.
Compatibility
Useful as a pest controller but can become very territorial. Add it to the tank last. May chase new fish, smaller wrasses, and shy fish. Do not keep multiple males.
