Yellow Wrasse
Halichoeres chrysus
Water Parameters
About
The Yellowtail wrasse is one of the most recommended wrasses for reef aquariums. Its bright yellow body with a black spot on the dorsal fin makes it attractive. It is extremely useful for hunting pests such as flatworms and bristleworms, and it is hardy and easy to feed.
Behavior & Temperament
Active and peaceful fish that constantly swims the aquarium searching for food. It sleeps buried in the sand at night. Excellent pest controller (flatworms, bristleworms).
Feeding
Carnivore. Feeds on small invertebrates, worms, crustaceans and tank pests. Accepts mysis, brine shrimp, chopped shrimp, marine flakes and pellets.
Breeding
Oviparous. Protogynous hermaphrodite. Reproduction rare in the aquarium.
Care Notes
A sand substrate (minimum 5 cm) is REQUIRED because it sleeps buried. Without sand, the fish injures itself trying to bury. Secure lid because it can jump. Excellent natural pest controller.
Compatibility
Excellent for reef tanks. Peaceful with most fish. May eat very small invertebrates (copepods, amphipods). Ideal for biological pest control.
