Water Parameters
About
The Tiger Barb is one of the most popular barbs in the hobby. With black vertical stripes on a golden-orange body, it is extremely active and interesting to watch. When kept in adequate schools, fin-nipping behavior is minimized.
Behavior & Temperament
Active and playful fish that may nip the fins of slow‑moving or long‑finned fish. It establishes a social hierarchy within the school.
Feeding
Omnivore. Accepts flakes, pellets, brine shrimp, daphnia and frozen foods. Appreciates vegetable supplement.
Breeding
Oviparous. Scatters eggs among plants. Parents do not tend the eggs and may eat them. Separate adults after spawning.
Care Notes
Keep in large groups (6+) to disperse aggression. Avoid fish with long fins as tank mates. Well‑oxygenated water with moderate flow.
Compatibility
Compatible with active fish of similar size. Avoid slow fish or those with long fins such as bettas and guppies. Keeping them in groups of 6+ reduces nipping behavior.
