Behavior & Temperament
Aggressive and highly territorial. MANDATORY to keep in colonies of 15+ individuals. Complex and rigid social hierarchy. Small groups result in chasing and death.
Feeding
Strict herbivore. Feed EXCLUSIVELY with spirulina, veggie flakes and aufwuchs. Animal protein causes FATAL Bloat. No exceptions.
Breeding
Maternal mouthbrooder. Female carries 5-20 eggs for 28-35 days. Over 100 color variants are known, depending on locality.
Care Notes
Large colony required (15+). 100% plant‑based diet with no exceptions. Very stable alkaline water. Frequent but small water changes (10‑15%).
Compatibility
Best in a Tropheus-specific tank. Do NOT mix morphotypes to avoid hybridization. Can coexist with Petrochromis in very large tanks.
