Chrysiptera cyanea
Water Parameters
About
The Blue Maiden is one of the hardiest marine fish and is often recommended for cycling new tanks. Its intense electric blue is stunning, with males showing an orange tail. However, its territorial nature makes it challenging in peaceful community setups.
Behavior & Temperament
Territorial and aggressive, especially males. Fiercely defends its territory against intruders. Despite its small size, it can intimidate larger, shy fish.
Feeding
Omnivore. Accepts marine flakes, pellets, brine shrimp, mysis and frozen foods. Eats practically any food offered, very easy to feed.
Breeding
Oviparous. Male builds a nest on a clean surface and actively courts females. Aggressively guards the eggs. Breeding possible in an aquarium.
Care Notes
Aquarium with plenty of hiding spots to establish territories. Introduce it last in the tank. One specimen per small aquarium. It can be kept with assertive fish that aren’t intimidated.
Compatibility
Extremely hardy but territorial. Best introduced last into the tank. Compatible with robust and assertive fish. Avoid shy or very peaceful fish that will be intimidated.
