True Percula Clownfish
Amphiprion percula
Water Parameters
About
The true Percula is often confused with A. ocellaris, but it has thicker black edges on the white bars and a more intense orange coloration. It’s the original species that inspired famous animated characters. Less common in the trade than the ocellaris, yet equally charming.
Behavior & Temperament
Behavior very similar to A. ocellaris. Forms pairs with host anemone. Slightly shyer and more territorial than the ocellaris. Protandric hermaphrodite.
Feeding
Omnivore. Accepts marine flakes, pellets, mysis, brine shrimp and varied frozen foods. Diversified feeding for better health and coloration.
Breeding
Egg‑laying with parental care. Similar to A. ocellaris: deposits eggs near the anemone, male cares for them. Captive breeding is well documented and practiced.
Care Notes
Marine water with a salinity of 1.023–1.025. Prefers host anemones (preferably Heteractis magnifica). Captive specimens are widely available and recommended.
Compatibility
Peaceful with other reef fish. Territorial around its anemone. Do not keep with other clownfish except a bonded pair. Compatible with most reef tank mates.
