About
Considered one of the most beautiful gouramis in the hobby. Body covered with iridescent pearl‑like spots. Males develop an orange‑red chest and throat during breeding. Ventral fins are sensory filaments.
Behavior & Temperament
Peaceful and elegant gourami. Males can be territorial with one another, but are gentle with other fish. It has a labyrinth organ for breathing atmospheric air.
Feeding
Omnivore - flakes, pellets, brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, mosquito larvae. Also eats algae and plant matter.
Breeding
Bubble‑nest builder. Male builds a nest at the surface and attracts a female. After spawning, the male cares for the eggs. Reproduction is relatively easy.
Care Notes
Well-planted aquarium with floating vegetation for bubble nests. Gentle current. Surface access for air breathing. Moderate lighting.
Compatibility
Very peaceful. Ideal with tetras, rasboras, corydoras, otos, and other peaceful gouramis. Avoid fin nippers (barbs).
