About
One of the most popular and hardy gouramis in the hobby. Available in several color varieties: blue, opaline, gold, Cosby. The name “three spots” refers to the two spots on the body plus the eye. Its labyrinth organ lets it breathe air.
Behavior & Temperament
Hardy gourami, but it can become territorial and aggressive as it ages, especially males. It may chase smaller or more timid fish.
Feeding
Omnivore - flakes, pellets, brine shrimp, bloodworms, vegetables. Very undemanding about food. Also eats hydra and planaria.
Breeding
Bubble‑nest builder. The male constructs a large nest and tends the eggs. Prolific and easy to breed.
Care Notes
Tank with plants and hiding spots. Very tolerant of a range of parameters. Gentle flow. Lid required. Ideal for beginners.
Compatibility
Semi-peaceful. Males can be aggressive toward other gouramis or slow/shy fish. Best with active medium-sized fish. Avoid long-finned fish.
